Review of the Guardianship Act 1987

The Attorney General has asked the NSW Law Reform Commission to review and report on the desirability of making changes to the Guardianship Act 1987 (NSW). As currently drafted, the Act allows a formal decision-maker to be appointed to make personal, financial and medical decisions for someone who is incapable of making those decisions because of a disability.

On 1 November 2016 we released Question Papers 2 and 3 on decision-making models and the role of guardians and financial managers. We seek your views about these issues. Submission close on Tuesday 31 January 2017.
