Public consultations
Should
a person be able to make decisions for someone else? Or should people be
supported to make their own decisions? If you are a guardian or carer, we want to hear your views on how the guardianship system is working and whether it needs to be changed. Public consultations will be held in Sydney on 30 May from 2pm-4pm and Parramatta on 1 June 2017 from 5pm-7pm.
Topics for discussion may include:
- whether NSW should move from a system of substitute decision-making to supported decision-making
- whether the law should acknowledge carers and informal supporters
- guardianship arrangements under the NDIS, and
- who can consent to medical treatment and restrictive practices on someone else's behalf.
To register your interest, please email nsw-lrc@justice.nsw.gov.au or call 8346 1284. We will provide you with venue details after you register.
